Park shelter Remodel
Working together with the surrounding community we established a new vision for this existing park shelter. This included public input sessions, image surveys and park programming. From the gathered information initial concepts were developed to explore a complete replacement of the existing shelter.
Because of soil conditions and budget constraints it was determined to renovate the existing structure. This renovation includes creating a more light-filled and open design utilizing new steel columns and glass garage doors in expanded community event space. The restrooms will be expanded and accessible from the community event space and the adjacent splash pad.
Durability of materials was an important element of the design; therefore the lower portion of the building exterior is clad in masonry and the interior walls are wrapped in fiber cement panels. The existing cedar siding will be re-milled and used throughout the exterior and interior of the renovation.
